Description

The “Lake Walk” Modern Farmhouse built by Patrick Murphy Builders was completed the fall of 2019. The home was designed by John Hurst Architects and Beth Howley Creative. The small neighborhood of West Shore Woods in Douglas provided some guidelines for the architecture of all the homes. The architecture and materials needed to give a nod to the orchard farm houses that are a part of local history in the areas of Douglas, Fennville and Saugatuck. In the final design, they were able to give the home a clean modern feel while still applying historical references. The exterior features a beautiful arrangement of roof lines and windows. The front elevation features a tall window at the stairwell location. The back elevation that faces tall mature trees features a two story atrium and a back porch. Hardy siding was used for durability along with metal roof accents and Pella Windows. A beautiful patio in the back features a stone firepit and lots of entertaining space. PMB used a low maintenance stained concrete for the front porch and the back porch and patio in a warm and natural tone. The front columns wrapped in cedar are a warm and inviting touch. Modern Forms “Logic” exterior LED lighting will be low maintenance and they have the perfect geometry that works so well with this home. The interior features three levels with the main floor being 1500 square feet incorporating an open kitchen/dining/family room with a master bedroom and bath. A mudroom, laundry and bathroom are placed off the garage for easy maintenance and after beach clean-up. A grand fireplace connects the first and second floors and is flanked by bookcases on one side and a comfortable bench seat on the other. The second floor is 900 square feet and features a large office, a sitting area and two bedrooms and a bath. A balcony overlooking the family room and a view to the atrium is a special feature. The lower level is 1100 square feet with 2 bedrooms, a bath, a family room, pool table area and a kitchenette. The double sided fireplace is a great feature that connects the family room area and the pool room/kitchenette. Engineered wood floors are used on the first and second floors, and a vinyl plank is used in the lower level. Trim work throughout includes custom modern crown details that are also used as the crown details on cabinetry in the kitchen and wine bar. Custom built-in bench seats in the family room and the master bedroom along with the custom fireplace surround and bookcases make this home unique and beautiful. Other features include a beautiful mix of metals, amazing tile applications, and a lot of great accent lighting.
